1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, accessing, or using WanderingCodex ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to all of these Terms, you may not access or use the Platform.
These Terms govern your access to and use of all tools, features, websites, and services provided by WanderingCodex.
2. Eligibility and Account Security
- Eligibility: You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum legal age in your jurisdiction) to create an account. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or legal guardian's permission to use the Platform.
- Account Registration: You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete registration information. You are solely responsible for protecting your password and account credentials.
- Security: You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
3. User Generated Content & Ownership
The Platform enables you to create and upload text, campaigns, characters, maps, stats, timelines, and other materials ("User Content").
- Your Ownership: You retain full copyright and ownership of the original text, lore, characters, and other materials you create on the Platform. We claim no ownership over your User Content.
- License to Us: To operate the Platform, you grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, cache, copy, display, transmit, and distribute your User Content solely to provide the services. This license includes displaying content to your authorized campaign members and public visitors (if you choose to make a world public).
- Private Content: Content marked as "Secret", "GM-only", or "Draft" is stored securely and will not be displayed or made publicly accessible by the Platform, except as authorized by your world's configuration or role permissions.
- Responsibility: You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to use and publish all User Content you post, and that it does not infringe on any third-party intellectual property or copyright.
4. Code of Conduct & Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use the Platform to engage in or facilitate any of the following behavior:
- Harassment, bullying, hate speech, or threatening other users.
- Posting sexually explicit, harmful, or illegal content in public or shared spaces.
- Infringing on the intellectual property, patent, trademark, or copyright of others.
- Attempting to disrupt or compromise the Platform's security, server endpoints, or database structures, or executing automated scraping or denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.
- Impersonating other users or staff, or claiming handles/vanity slugs you do not have rights to with the intent to mislead.
5. Subscriptions, Payments & Vanity Handles
- Billing: Access to paid subscription tiers (e.g., Supporter, Archivist) is processed through Stripe. Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis as selected.
- Cancellation: You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time using the Stripe billing portal in your account settings. Upon cancellation, paid features will remain active until the end of your billing cycle.
- Vanity Handles & Cooldowns: If your paid subscription lapses, custom world URL handles (vanity slugs) that require a paid tier will be released after a grace period. Released handles enter a 30-day cooldown before becoming available to other users. World data is not deleted, but pathing reverts to standard project IDs.
- Refunds: Payments are generally non-refundable except where required by law.
6. Moderation, Suspension & Termination
We reserve the right (but do not assume the obligation) to review, moderate, edit, or delete User Content that violates these Terms or is otherwise deemed harmful.
We may suspend or terminate your account and access to the Platform at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have breached these Terms, violated laws, or engaged in behavior that compromises the safety or stability of the Platform.
7. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE PLATFORM WILL ALWAYS BE SECURE, ERROR-FREE, OR UNINTERRUPTED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WANDERINGCODEX OR ITS CREATORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF DATA, LORE, ASSETS, OR REVENUES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM.
8. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of your jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or use of the Platform shall be resolved individually through friendly mediation, or, if unsuccessful, in the competent courts of our operating jurisdiction.
9. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we make changes, we will post the updated version and change the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the Platform after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
